THANKSGIVING

Jan 12, 2023 | Blog

November is a time for “thanks giving”.

It’s not only a time for turkey and dressing but a time to remember and reflect on all that God does and thank Him. Prayer is the tool to connect with God to do that. Make November a Thanksgiving Prayer month.

There are other types of prayer:

Adoration for praise and worship,

Confession to be free of sin,

Supplication is asking for something and likely the most used, and

Thanksgiving to acknowledge what God has done and thank Him for it.

My thanks would be for the ability to pray allowing me to connect with God to know him more.

Prayer is the thread that runs through life in each situation knowing that there is no need for secrets but for honesty, perfect freedom, perfect forgiveness, and perfect confidence. Prayer brings hope, help, relief, and power through connecting with God.

Prayer works no matter where, when or how God hears and He answers.

It works anytime, during quiet, on the run, or at scheduled prayer stops. It is the way to connect with God the Father at any time, for any reason, in various ways. It can be on my knees, in my bed, driving to an appointment, aloud or in silence. It is present and brings rest and trust knowing wisdom is coming for the current situation. I shudder to think what life would be like without it.

A situation presented itself at the dentist years ago when I needed to have a loose crown replaced on one of my front teeth. The dentist said he would use a little hammer to remove it so that it could be securely cemented.

However, it could break, my tooth could break off, or the crown could just pop off. I asked him to wait just a minute while I began my Jesus prayer silently. I simply said the name of Jesus repeatedly to focus and trust God to rescue me from this possible trauma. I signaled the dentist that I was ready and after nine or ten hits with this tiny hammer, the crown popped off without breaking leaving my own tooth in place.

God rescued me and my faith strengthened. Prayer works no matter where, when or how God hears and he answers. He says so in his Word and He keeps His promise.

Prayer:
I pray for each person who reads this Father God that you will bring to mind the times You were right there to walk through sadness, sickness, grief, joy and other needs in life events. In addition, as You do, let the Thanksgiving fill their heart to overflowing to share with others what You have done. Encourage, strengthen, and heal those who hear to bring them to know you. Thank You, God.

Time to take out your journal and pen to record what God has done for you.

Scripture: Matthew 6:6-13New International Version (NIV)

6 But when you pray, go into your room, close the door, and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you. 7 And when you pray, do not keep on babbling like pagans, for they think they will be heard because of their many words. 8 Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him.
9 “This, then, is how you should pray:
“‘Our Father in heaven,
hallowed be your name,
10 your kingdom come,
your will be done,
on earth as it is in heaven.
11 Give us today our daily bread.
12 And forgive us our debts,
as we also have forgiven our debtors.
13 And lead us not into temptation,[a]
but deliver us from the evil one.[b]’
