Scripture: For January 1 is Genesis 1&2, and Luke 1.
The one thing for me (Rose) today: Gen. 1:1-4 and Luke 1:3b-4.
Genesis—“The earth was without form and void, and darkness was over the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters. And God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light. God saw that the light was good. And God separated the light from the darkness.”
Luke—“ it seemed good to me also, having followed all things closely for some time past, to write an orderly account for you, most excellent (Rose) Theophilus, that you may have certainty concerning the things you have been taught.”
Observation:
Who or what’s in it?
God, earth-w/o form and void, darkness over the face of the deep, Spirit of God hovering over the face of the waters, God brings light, God separates light from darkness.
What’s happening?
God is moving and bringing. The Spirit hovers. The darkness covers. The deep and the water have a face. The Spirit hovers over the face of the water but isn’t covering it; the water’s view isn’t obscured. The darkness covers the face of the deep; the deep can only see from behind the darkness. The deep is what’s behind the face. The water is visible the deep is not.
Application:
WIIFM-What’s in it For Me?
God’s pattern is evident from the very beginning. My heart is to bring freedom individually to the people who come for mentoring ministry; to get the person moving as God commanded us, to go forth. I share with those that come what has been given to me over the years. I discovered by reading this that God lets me see “the other side.” I can see the source or root of the problem when a person shares their situation or story, not only because I have been in something similar but because God gives it to me and I delight in that.
Christ likeness in each of us is “the deep.” The faces are the surface or reflection of what is inside. I first thought our face would be our personality, but reflecting and thinking about it more, I see it is there just as the water's so I'd say it's God given. Like the deep covered in darkness we can only see from behind our “face.” We hide there.
When God separates the darkness that covers our face with His light we can see from the front…from God’s view of us. We can then see “the deep” and be free of the darkness that once covered it. Joy replaces shame.
Prayer:
As Mary prayed in Luke 1:38, “Behold I am the servant of the Lord; let it be to me according to your word.” And Thank You God for Luke who assures me that I can have certainty concerning things I have been taught. Amen.
